The Yale Cancer Center (YCC) originated in 1974 following a legislative decree in 1971, marking the commencement of the nation's efforts against cancer. It is part of a limited network of 51 Comprehensive Cancer Centers nationwide endorsed by the National Cancer Institute. The center consolidates the resources of Yale Medicine (YM), Smilow Cancer Hospital, and Yale University. Renowned for its contributions to cancer treatment history, Yale is notably recognized as the institution where cancer chemotherapy and the entire domain of cancer drug development were pioneered, with the first cancer drug being administered in 1942.
