iThemba LABS has been renowned since the late 1980s for supplying high-quality accelerator-based radiopharmaceuticals and radiochemicals to both the national and international markets. This encompasses the provision of short-lived SPECT radiopharmaceuticals such as 123I-related products and 67Ga citrate to more than 25 nuclear medicine departments in South Africa. Additionally, iThemba LABS achieved a significant milestone in 2006 by producing the first commercial PET radiopharmaceutical, 18F-FDG, followed by the production of the first commercial 68Ge/68Ga generator in 2008.
